Information on what to bring to the hospital for mom and baby is everywhere. But even if you search the web, you're unlikely to find anything about dad's essentials.
Sensitive to this situation, Samuel and Maxime have prepared a list of everything dad should have with him on the way to the birth.
About money
Deliveries don't always synchronize with the cafeteria schedule, and you'll probably have to turn to the vending machines to patch a hole. A little Sunchips and a blue Powerade, and you're off for a session of "Let's go my love, push! You're the best!
Clean bobbins
Two or three spare pairs should do the trick. Bring along your favorite bobbles, in case Mom wants to take a few shots during your skin-to-skin time.
An antiperspirant
As everyone says, when you're a parent, time is precious. The unexpected happens, and you may find yourself in camping mode. Swapping a shower for a couple of Axe bars under the armpits never killed anyone.
A pillow
The medical team's priority will obviously be to look after mom. Your comfort may therefore be somewhat neglected. To make sure you don't start your new life as a dad with a stiff neck, remember to take a quality pillow with you.
The Mieux Vivre guide
Until the last minute, impress the gallery and keep your daddy's bible close at hand! The nurses will be talking about it in the hallway.
If you need it, we recommend this little read: Make the most of what you've read as a father-to-be.
Cell phone charger
It's a bit sad to add it to the list. But in this age of technology, it's increasingly essential. You'll want to manage visits, and to do that, you'll need to get in touch with those around you. A quick text to the grandmothers to confirm that everything is under control will also do them a world of good.
Another T-shirt
A brand-new baby is magical... and also slimy. Fortunately, amniotic fluid and vernix stains wash off just fine. In any case, you'll have been hot and a clean T-shirt will be necessary.
A color Gameboy and the Pokémon Red game
There may be some delays in the process. Take advantage of this opportunity to fall back into childhood one last time before setting out on the road to fatherhood. We suggest you put the sound on mute and start with Charmander. Good fire Pokémon are rare and ... well ... that's for another article.
Two beers
One because some - dubious - studies suggest that malt activates mom's milk flow. And the other because Dad will be thirsty. Very thirsty.
A bathing suit
In the hours leading up to delivery, the medical team may suggest that you slip into the bath with Mom. For this, a bathing suit is essential.
Defeat: "I forgot my jersey at home!" won't save you, and you'll end up with soggy underpants.
Cozy toilet paper
Hospital toilet paper is often rough, while a post-delivery woman's crotch is often sensitive. Spoil her with triple-ply paper.
A small gift for your love
Mom will give birth, and you'll be in awe of the physical and mental effort she's made. Give her a little present and tell her you love her - it's the least you can do!
